New roaming rates will be a welcome change to British holidaymakers this summer, according to Mobile-Phones.co.uk.
Thomas Newton, a spokesperson for the firm, said UK consumers would already be feeling the effects of both the current exchange rates and the recession so the reduction in the cost of making phone calls aboard would be warmly received.
He was commenting after the new European Commission roaming rules came into effect on July 1st 2009, reducing the price of phoning and texting from Europe by up to 60 per cent.
Mr Newton claimed that in the past, British holidaymakers have often been unaware of how much making calls abroad could cost them.
He added: "Knowledge that the cost of making calls and sending texts inside the EU has fallen to less than 40p and 20p respectively will help holidaymakers avoid coming home to an astronomical phone bill."
