Communication managers can
reduce staff attrition levels within their organisations by recognising employee stress, it has been reported.
Writing for Call Centre Helper, Donna Phillips, a director at Therapy Solutions Providers, said stress is the single biggest cause of sickness absence more so than under-performance, low morale and increased litigation.
However, she suggested that many employers fail to realise the condition and instead blame other factors when employees move on.
Ms Phillips said: "When questioned, the majority of staff stated their main reasons for leaving as stress, while it rarely makes the top five in employers' surveys. Nothing starts a mass exodus like high stress levels."
It is "one of the biggest challenges" facing communication managers on a daily basis, she commented.
Earlier this week, Steve Woosey, membership director at the Professional Planning Forum, urged firms to commit to staff training in a bid to encourage greater levels of loyalty from employees.
He said that although
staff attrition levels had fallen to 23 per cent in the contact centre sector, they were likely to pick up again when
the economy recovers unless firms take proactive preventative steps.
