Avaya and Nortel Roadmap
Avaya+Nortel=Exponentially Better
On 19th January 2010, within 30 days of completing the acquisition of Nortel Enterprise Solutions, Avaya launched its integrated product roadmap via a series of webinars to thousands of customers, partners and employees worldwide.
As well as the roadmap and the underpinning reference architecture that supports it, they presented their vision for the future of business communications. The analyst community seemed to approve: Avaya, through their acquisition of Nortel, will combine their expertise and provide the simplest, most advanced open standards-based communications systems in the world.

While there were many disparate groups watching the announcements and searching for their own specific answers within them, one common question was how would Avaya deal with the various product overlaps?
What shone through from the presentation from Avaya's leadership was their commitment to the expanded Avaya+Nortel customer base. Nortel users especially, who had spent a great many months concerned for the future of their investment in a Nortel estate, suddently had hope. Avaya used three words to summarise this commitment: Protect, Extend, and Grow.
The starting point for their portfolio strategy was 100% consistent with Avaya's pre-acquisition strategy: that Avaya's Enterprise Portfolio will be anchored by Avaya Aura™, a reference architecture introduced in the first half of 2009.
Avaya Aura is the embodiment of Avaya's vision for "Plug and Play Communications". It delivers an open, SIP-based architecture and enables the creation of a communications application platform.
